Communication is Key
Good communication is the foundation for any successful relationship. As teachers, we train not only in the Pilates method but also in communication. We need to be able to read nonverbal cues from clients and we also need to be able to communicate the intricacies of an exercise effectively. However, sometimes we just can’t read it all! In those cases a good teacher will take the time to ask their class or private client how they’re doing, if they’re feeling the exercise, and where they’re feeling it. That’s where you come in. Communication is key and we want to hear from you. If you’re not feeling an exercise like you think you should, or something is not challenging, tell us. When we ask questions, we hope for honest answers. Truly. If you let your teacher know how the session is going for you while it’s still happening, they can always adjust the exercises or redirect the lesson plan so that you can get the most out of the session.
Studios and teachers grow because of constructive feedback. Help us help you even more by letting us know what works for you, when and how you feel the burn, and what you need more of. If a teacher asks what you would like to work on at the beginning of class, don’t hesitate to tell them the truth! Because our classes are designed to be small and intimate, we can tailor them directly to the needs of the clients attending. We can’t always promise to meet every need every time, but the more aware we are of your the better we can work towards making each and every session the best it can be.
Lastly, don’t hesitate to ask us questions. Our teachers plan their classes with certain things in mind, so if the reason behind an exercise is unclear, ask. All of these things should apply wherever you’re taking class. Teachers want to communicate with you and also hear feedback from you. We all want to do the best we can and give you the kind of service that keeps you motivated to do your best, too.
