Hi there. I’m Holly Furgason. The owner, CEO, and Instructor Trainer at Blue Sparrow Pilates and the voice behind Fit4Real. As a lifelong athlete and former professional dancer, I have always been intrigued by the body and how it moves. Based out of Blue Sparrow Pilates’ flagship studio in San Francisco, I travel the country and the world to educate aspiring Pilates instructors.
As a fully certified STOTT PILATES® instructor and Instructor Trainer, my teaching emphasizes the science behind movement and alignment and incorporates creative approaches to addressing imbalances, alignment challenges, and injury prevention and rehabilitation.
From fearlessly skateboarding through my neighborhood as a child, to studying dance for two decades, to long distance bike racing in the queen stage of L’etape du California, putting my body in motion and tackling new adventures has always been a big part of my life. With a BA in dance from the University of Michigan and an MFA in Dance from Mills College, my path to STOTT PILATES® began in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan in 1999 to supplement my dance training. After completing my full Certification, I became a STOTT PILATES® Instructor Trainer, and in 2010 my studio became the STOTT PILATES® Licensed Training Center for San Francisco, CA.
I started Fit4Real in 2012 as a way to share all the new lessons I learn everyday as a teacher, a studio owner, and a student. Teaching is never easy. Owning a studio is challenging. Making mistakes and learning is just part of the business. Often, I’ve had to learn things the hard way. Hopefully by answering your questions and sharing what I’ve learned over the years, you’ll have a jumpstart at being the best Pilates practitioner you can be.

Holly Furgason trains and teaches at her studio, Blue Sparrow Pilates, in San Francisco and Oakland, CA. Holly has been teaching Pilates for over 15 years, and has presented his work at numerous training facilities around the world. She teaches diverse clientele, from general conditioning to performance training for dancers or professional athletes, and has extensive experience working with injuries. Holly was a Top Ten Finalist for Finding the Next Pilates Anytime Instructor contest in 2013. She is the creator of Prenatal Pilates a mobile workout app with over 70,000 downloads. Holly is a dedicated writer and publishes a teaching blog for mentoring Pilates instructors called Fit 4 Real, and has been published by Pilates Style Magazine and blog, Pilates Pro, and co-author chapters in The Survival Guide for Pilates Teachers (2004) and The Pilates Space (2005). The University of Michigan grad earned her MFA from Mills College in Oakland California, where she now teaches as an adjunct professor. Holly’s studio is the STOTT PILATES® teacher training center for San Francisco and she is an Instructor Trainer in STOTT PILATES® on all apparatus, as well as in Total Barre and CORE®. Holly is a committed and passionate instructor about teaching and is living her dream of using the Pilates method to help her community become healthier, happier and more fit.
