Description

The knee is a complex structure that can experience any number of injuries or conditions that interrupt normal functioning. This lecture/demo-style workshop, developed by the Merrithew™ team, begins by exploring the anatomy and biomechanics involved in the normal, healthy functioning of the knee, followed by a discussion of some of the more common dysfunctions caused by injury or disease. Lastly, learn a variety of exercise progressions using the Pilates Reformer and accessories designed to be implemented in a post-rehabilitative setting to rebuild normal muscle action and movement patterning. Designed to prepare the body for specific activities and enhance performance, these exercises can challenge and promote optimal functioning.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand optimal function and movement patterns of the knee joint.
  2. Review anatomy, biomechanics and muscular components.
  3. Understand how common dysfunctions can cause pain and discomfort.

Description

The Stability Ball is a perfect tool to use with prenatal clients and adding resistance with the Flex-Band® exerciser delivers a safe and effective workout for moms-to-be. In this interactive seminar, developed by the Merrithew team, apply the most current medical information, exercise guidelines and research available on pregnancy and movement to innovative STOTT PILATES® exercise adaptations. Learn programming concepts for teaching small groups and private clients specifically in the second trimester. Discuss anatomical and physiological changes, risk factors and movement considerations and leave with strategies for building new prenatal programs as well as enhancing those already in progress.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand appropriateness of STOTT PILATES as well as possible contraindications during pregnancy.
  2. Hear information about physiological changes throughout all three trimesters.
  3. Examine specific exercise modifications using the Stability Ball and Flex-Band.
  4. Apply the STOTT PILATES Five Basic Principles of stabilization to prenatal exercises.
